Calling Barbara Grace
There's someone inspiring I've been meaning to post about since we were in Portland, Oregon in the US. While in the hostel there, we met a woman called Barbara Grace who's a well-experienced traveller, an absolute laugh riot and someone who will talk to anyone. She got her hostelling international lifetime membership when she was 17. She's now in her 70s and has never lost the budget traveller mentality; she's the perfect hosteller. She's a tiny thing but wouldn't put up with any nonsense, I'm sure. When we met her, she'd just finished a cross-country bus ride. This girl has been all over the world and is determined to see and do as much more as she can. She was going to make her way to the Grand Canyon, where she worked 15 years ago, to see if she could get a job there again. I hope she got it; visitors would love her. She's been all over the world and lived in various countries, but she still loves to hear about other people's travels. I'm so glad we met her and only wish my grandmother could have met her too; those two would have talked nonstop and loved every minute. Barbara Grace, if you happen to read this, keep on living it up and we hope to see you again somewhere!!! And if anyone else meets up with her before we do, tell her we said "Ciao for now!"
